Woodfired Terracotta Tiles

Woodfiring has been the traditional ceramic firing method for centuries. Examples of woodfired terracotta have been found in places as diverse as North Africa, Greece and China.

Middle Earth hand-cast tiles are made using techniques that have not changed in hundreds of years. Each tile is produced individually and is cured and dried by the sun and wind. When dry, the tiles are fired in wood fired kilns for up to 96 hours. This process creates beautiful texture and patina on the tiles; from light yellow, to pinks, to dark reds - often with flashes.

IMPORTANT: Middle Earth Hand Woodfired tiles are not pre-sealed. All tiles should be sealed after installation with a Penetrating sealer before they are grouted. For internal installation and creating beautiful floors we recommend Classic Java Oil as a sealer after they are grouted.
